Writing a Lahore delivery address a rider can actually find

A findable Lahore address has four parts: the precise bit, the block or phase, a permanent landmark, and a number that is answered. Most addresses passed to couriers have the first two.

Lahore addresses are written for people who already know the area. "House 12, Street 4, Johar Town" is perfectly clear to the person who lives there and nearly useless to a rider who has fourteen other stops. An address that cannot be found becomes a hold, then a second attempt, then sometimes a return, and none of that is the rider's fault.

A findable Lahore address has four parts, in this order: the precise bit, the area bit, the landmark, and a phone number that works. Most addresses sellers pass to couriers have the first two and neither of the last two.

Part one: the precise bit

House, flat or shop number, street number, and block. Write them as they are painted on the building rather than as the customer said them on the phone.

  • "House 12-B" and "House 12B" are different houses in some blocks. Copy the form the customer gives
  • A flat needs the building name and the floor. "Flat 3" in a six-storey building is three guesses
  • A shop needs the plaza or market name. Shop numbers restart in every plaza

Part two: the area bit, specific enough to narrow it

"Johar Town" is about eight square kilometres. "Johar Town Block G1" is a street. Phase and block are the parts that do the work, and leaving them out is the most common single defect in a Lahore address.

Write the phase or block even when the customer does not. If they do not know it, the nearest main road plus a landmark is a better substitute than the bare area name.

Part three: the landmark, which is what riders actually use

A rider navigates the last three hundred metres by landmark, not by street number. One good landmark is worth more than a perfectly formatted street line.

  • Name something permanent and visible from the road: a mosque, a school, a petrol station, a known plaza, a park gate
  • Say which side and roughly how far: "second street left after the Shell pump, about 200 metres"
  • Avoid landmarks only locals know. "Near Baba ji's shop" is not a landmark
  • Avoid anything that moves or closes. A stall is not a landmark

Part four: a phone number that is answered

A number with a digit missing is the same as no number. A number that goes to a switched-off phone is the same as no number. The customer gets a message when the parcel goes out for delivery, and that message is the moment the number earns its place.

If the recipient is not the buyer, give both numbers and say which is which. A gift going to a relative who has not been told about it is a predictable refusal.

What the zone has to do with the price

The extended-area surcharge is a flat PKR 50 per parcel and it depends on which zone the address falls into, never on the weight. Eleven named points mark where Lahore City ends: beyond Central Park on Ferozepur Road, beyond Bahria Orchard on Raiwind Road, beyond Mohlanwal on Multan Road, beyond Bahria Town and beyond Jallo Park on Canal Road, beyond Rachna Town and beyond Manawan on G.T. Road, beyond Begum Kot, beyond Green Land Swimming Pool on Sagian Road, beyond Lahore School of Economics on Barki Road, and beyond Dera Chahal on Bedian Road.

A vague address near one of those boundaries is the case where a zone has to be resolved by hand. The coverage map carries the eleven points, and Lahore delivery zones explained covers how the boundary actually works.

Two worked examples

Weak: "House 12, Street 4, Johar Town, Lahore."

Strong: "House 12-B, Street 4, Block G1, Johar Town, Lahore. Second street on the left after the Total petrol pump on Khayaban-e-Firdousi, white gate, about 150 metres in."

Weak: "Shop 7, Hafeez Centre."

Strong: "Shop 7, ground floor, Hafeez Centre, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Lahore. Entrance facing the Main Boulevard side, next to the mobile accessory shops."

The strong versions are twice as long and that is the entire point. You are writing for someone who has never been there.

Where to fix this once rather than per order

If the same customers order repeatedly, keep their addresses in your address book in the merchant portal rather than retyping them. An address you have corrected once stays corrected. For bulk work, get the address columns right in the file before you import it rather than fixing rows afterwards: booking orders in bulk with a CSV covers the import and its validation report.

And if you want to see what a given address costs to deliver to, the pricing calculator takes the zone as an input.

Booking in Lahore starts at PKR 180 for the first 0.5 kg. Work out your own figure before you commit.
